Hillcrest Farmers Market
VISITING CHEF SERIES

Every month the Hillcrest Farmers Market strives to highlight a local chef from a Hillcrest restaurant. The Visiting Chef Series takes place from 1pm-2pm in the heart of the market where the chef will demonstrate how to cook a farmers market inspired dish and give out samples.
Our next scheduled Visting Chef will be Rashida McElve from Edgy Edibles on Sunday, July 29th 2010.
If you are a local chef and would like to be a visiting chef contact marketing@hillcrestbia.org.
ABOUT
The Hillcrest Farmers Market currently consists of 110 vendors offering a wide variety of locally grown in-season fruit, produce and flowers. Many of the local California Farmers participating in the market grow their produce organically or with no pesticides. The market also hosts a large variety of prepared food and hot food items with an emphasis on international cuisine. Additionally, each week there are a large number of arts and crafts vendors participating as well as weekly entertainment performed by the 7th Day, Buskers, a local band.
The market originally opened with only 35 vendors on the second Sunday in April 1997. It has been a big success since it first opened and still retains the reputation as "The Best" Farmers Market in San Diego County. It was late in 1995 when then acting President of the Hillcrest Association David Cohen determined that Hillcrest needed a Farmers Market and that the Hillcrest Association was going to be the market sponsor and find a suitable location in Hillcrest to set it up. After much tired searching for a site and with the help and influence of Susan Davis State Assembly Person at the time, finally a deal was made with the Department of Motor Vehicles to use their parking lot.
