It’s officially fall. And in Hillcrest, you know what that means: another season to celebrate!

This year we’re welcoming autumn with open arms, embracing the season and throwing a brand new Hillcrest inspired street festival on Sunday, October 16 — just three weekends away. We’re inviting San Diego into the heart of eastern Hillcrest on University Avenue between Normal Street and Vermont Avenue. The Hoedown will feature a grand stage with a country themed line up all day long, sponsored by the Urban Kickers and line-dancing lessons on the hour, so break those cowboy boots in before October 16!

Hillcrest’s favorite ladies, The Dreamgirls, will be performing at 2 PM and although there will be 21+ Street Side Saloon, this event is friendly for all ages. Cop a squat on a hay bail by the dance floor and watch all the action! If your cowboy boots are feeling broken in, take a stroll to the petting zoo and ‘ou and ah’ at all the Barnyard Cuties! In addition to over 15 individual food tents, Hillcrest’s very own, Brazen BBQ will be grilling racks of ribs all day long, which will go great with a Blue Moon Harvest beer or a Three Olives Cream Soda Cocktail at the Street Side Saloon.

The San Diego Rodeo will be judging the real cowboys on the mechanical bull — so make sure that cowboy hat is nice and secure before jumping on the bull.

And what October event wouldn’t be complete without a costume competition? Wear your best costume to the Hoedown and stick around for judging at 7 PM on the dot, when we’ll award our winner with the ultimate Hoedown prize.
